aTV Flash 4.5

aTV Flash 4.5 for the 1st generation (silver) Apple TV is now available. Version 4.5 includes support for OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) as well as a handful of general improvements and fixes. We're also still working on a number of additional features for the 1st gen models and plan to have additional updates available soon.

Version 4.5 is available through the Downloads tab in your account. If you're already running aTV Flash on your Apple TV you can update through the Maintenance --> Manage Plugins menu.

Hulu Plus launches on Apple TV

Apple on Tuesday quietly updated the Apple TV set-top box, adding a new application for the Hulu Plus streaming video service.

The subscription service appeared on users' Apple TV home screens on Tuesday without the need for a software update. Those who subscribe to the Hulu Plus service can log in to access their account, while new users are offered a free one-week trial.

Hulu Plus joins Netflix, MLB.TV, the NBA, NHL, Vimeo, YouTube, and WSJ Live as third-party content providers available on the Apple TV. They join Apple's own iTunes content available for sale or rental.

Apple has steadily added new applications to the Apple TV even without the availability of a dedicated App Store, like exists on the iPhone, iPad and even Mac platforms. Streaming MLB and NBA games were added along with 5.1 sound support for Netflix in March of 2011, while NHL games, Wall Street Journal Live, Photo Stream, AirPlay Mirroring and iTunes Trailers were added with a software update last October.

The $7.99-per-month Hulu Plus service debuted in mid-2010, offering access to back episodes of popular shows like "Family Guy," "Modern Family" and "Glee." Users of the service have previously been able to access Hulu Plus on their iPhone or iPad.






This fall, the functionality of the Apple TV will grow with the launch of iOS 6. Developer previews of the forthcoming software update have the added ability to reorder icons on the Apple TV home screen, much like users can do on an iPhone or iPad. The third iOS 6 beta for Apple TV also added enhanced AirPlay control, allowing users to actively stream audio to external AirPlay-capable speakers.

iOS 6 Beta 3 For Apple TV Adds Ability To Stream Audio To AirPlay Enabled Speakers

iOS 6 beta 3 that was seeded to registered developers a couple of days back, adds the ability to stream audio to AirPlay speakers from the Apple TV.

Previously, the Apple TV could only receive AirPlay streams.



The change was noted by FlatPanelsHD:

Amid rumors of the Apple TV platform being opened up to developers, Apple has been incrementally adding features to the Apple TV, by first overhauling the UI, adding the ability to rearrange inbuilt apps and now enable AirPlay audio out.

The AirPlay speaker-out function can be found in the AirPlay menu on Apple TV. From here you can select all your AirPlay speakers in your home. The Dolby setting option in the audio has to be turned off. Otherwise, sound volume is very low, it is said.
AirPlay enabled speakers on the same network as the Apple TV are detected, one of which can then be chosen to stream audio.






AirPlay audio out enables the Apple TV to do a better job at being a media streamer, freeing itself of the constraints posed by physical cables.

aTV Flash (Black) 1.7 Brings trakt.tv to Apple TV

FireCore has released a new v%rsion of aTV Flash (black) 1.7 for the jailbroken Apple TV 2G, which brings  seamless access to trakt.tv.

trakt.tv is a free service that automatically tracks the movies and TV shows you watch, and recommends related content.



FireCore has provided the following information on their blog:

With our trakt.tv integration on the Apple TV, watched movies and TV shows are automatically 'scrobbled' back to your trakt.tv profile. You will also have`the option to submit ratings for each video right from the Apple TV menu. Support for 2-way sync is also in the works, and will be available in a future version.

In addition to the access to trakt.tv, aTV Flash (black) includes the following changes and improvements:

Improved metadata fetching speed

Added trakt.tv integration (scrobbling and ratings)
