Yesterday, we reported that AT&T customers are getting an error message when they try to activate FaceTime over cellular networks after upgrading to iOS 6 beta 3, which indicated that AT&T plans to charge users for using FaceTime over cellular network.
TechCrunch reports that they AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson about the issue at Fortune's Brainstorm conference.
“I’ve heard the same rumor,” he said, insisting that for now, AT&T is focused on working with Apple to get the technology stabilized, so “it’s too early to talk about pricing.”
Meanwhile, Wall Street Journal reports that Sprint indicated that it has no plans to charge their iPhone customers additional fees for using FaceTime over their network as it considers it part of customer's existing data package. Verizon declined to comment on the issue.
The fact that AT&T's CEO is not denying it, suggests that they are indeed planning to charge customers for using FaceTime over cellular networks. We also don't understand what he means by working with Apple to get the technology stabilized. Apple launched the feature back in 2010 with the launch of iPhone 4, so it had enough time to get any issues sorted.
